The Philippines has endured an exceptionally challenging six weeks — first struck by a deadly 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu on 30 September, followed closely by two powerful super typhoons, Kalmaegi and Fungwong, which caused widespread devastation across several regions.
In response, friends, partners, non-profit organisations, and the dedicated volunteers of Heart for Philippines have once again united to provide urgent support wherever it is most needed.
A Community Effort: Charity Food-Stall Fundraiser
On Thursday, 20 November, our very own Maricel Winter, an employee at Nationwide Swindon, took the inspiring initiative to organise a charity food-stall fundraiser at her workplace. With the generous help of friends and family — who donated delicious cakes and trays of savoury noodles — Maricel served hundreds of employees throughout the day.
She was joined by Zobel Starritt and her daughter Mayumi, co-founder of Heart for Philippines, along with Eva Rodriguez, one of our long-standing volunteers. Their collective effort, teamwork, and community spirit turned the event into a resounding success.
Alongside the food sale, a raffle was held, adding even more excitement and generosity to the day.
In total, £900 was raised through sales and donations.

Where the Funds Will Go
These vital funds directly support our Disaster Relief efforts, including:
- Cleanup operations
- Relief and care packages
- Logistics and freight of donated clothing and food from the UK to the Philippines
- Rebuilding damaged school classrooms
- And much more
Even without new donations, the amount raised so far is already creating meaningful impact — providing immediate aid while also supporting long-term recovery for affected communities.
