Help Families Who Have Lost Everything

Tropical Storm Trami (known locally as Hurricane Kristine) has devastated large parts of the Philippines. Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by this storm and 24 people have been killed.

The needs are great, but you can help to make a difference.

What is Heart for Philippines doing?

Our main effort right now is supporting an evacuation centre in Naga, a city in the Bicol region which has been affected by heavy flooding.

Heart for Philippines is assisting the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) which has been converted into a shelter and is currently housing 200 people who have lost everything. They require help in every aspect, including food, sanitary supplies, clothing, and beddings.

The school has a working kitchen and Heart for Philippines is helping to coordinate with local food suppliers to buy in goods and ensure the school has food each day to feed those housed there.

The school itself is still surrounded by water, so it is inaccessible by foot. Those being taken to the school are being dropped off by boat by rescue teams. Supplies are also being brought in this way.

Heart for Philippines is also supporting businesses in the area who have been affected by the floods. While prices have risen due to the increased demand, we are working with long term partners who are providing resources to us at cost. This ensures we are getting the best value to meet the needs of those staying at the rescue centre.
